Olá pessoal, sejam bem-vindos ao terceiro dia da viagem!

    Esse foi um dia bem simples e tranquilo. Eu basicamente passei um tempo andando pela cidade de Assis, observando os detalhes e explorando com calma. Mas esse post vai ser dividido em duas partes, porque à noite eu fui em um evento no cemitério — e quero contar sobre isso separadamente.

    Então hoje vamos falar um pouco sobre a cidade?

    Assis tem uma estética medieval muito marcante. A arquitetura segue esse estilo mais antigo, com construções em pedras claras e um ar bem histórico, que dá uma sensação diferente de caminhar pelas ruas.

Hello everyone, welcome to the third day of the trip!

    This was a very simple and calm day. I basically spent some time walking around the city of Assis, observing the details and exploring at a relaxed pace. But this post will be divided into two parts, because at night I went to an event at the cemetery — and I want to talk about that separately.

    So today, let’s talk a bit about the city.

    Assis has a very striking medieval aesthetic. The architecture follows this older style, with light stone buildings and a very historical atmosphere, which gives a different feeling when walking through the streets.

    Uma coisa que me chamou bastante atenção foram as lojas locais. Muitas delas são especializadas em produtos feitos com madeira de oliveira — desde souvenirs até itens de decoração e utensílios de cozinha. Tudo muito bonito e com aquele toque artesanal. Além disso, outro material muito presente na cidade é o couro. Existem várias lojas com roupas, bolsas e sapatos feitos com couro de alta qualidade, geralmente também artesanais. Inclusive, acabei comprando algumas coisas — são peças muito bonitas e bem feitas.

    Nesse dia, aproveitei para passear por essas lojas, comprar alguns souvenirs para amigos e também um brinco muito fofo pra mim, feito de madeira de oliveira no formato da cruz franciscana. Depois eu mostro melhor pra vocês, pois fiz uma comprinha que também será um post separado sobre!

    One thing that really caught my attention was the local shops. Many of them specialize in products made from olive wood — from souvenirs to home decor items and kitchen utensils. Everything is very beautiful and has that handcrafted touch. In addition, another material that is very present in the city is leather. There are many shops with clothes, bags, and shoes made from high-quality leather, usually also handmade. I even ended up buying a few things — they are very beautiful and well made.

    On this day, I took the opportunity to walk through these shops, buy some souvenirs for friends, and also a very cute pair of earrings for myself, made of olive wood in the shape of the Franciscan cross. I’ll show it better later, since I also made a little shopping haul that will be a separate post!

    Ah, essa arte da gatinhas na janela que aparece na foto... Além de ser muito bem feita, o artista teve um cuidado impressionante: o reflexo pintado na janela é exatamente o reflexo real da rua. Até o detalhe da janela semiaberta foi respeitado no reflexo. Eu mesma fiquei olhando depois de tirar a foto, tentando entender — é realmente muito bem executado. Uma pena não ter o nome do artista ali.

    Ah, this artwork of the kittens on the window that appears in the photo… Besides being very well done, the artist paid incredible attention to detail: the reflection painted on the window is exactly the real reflection of the street. Even the detail of the half-open window was respected in the reflection. I actually stood there looking at it after taking the photo, trying to understand — it’s really very well executed. It’s just a pity there’s no reference to the artist.

     

    Também encontrei uma amiga muito querida, a Alessandra. Ela é uma grande amiga do meu pai há muitos anos e sempre foi muito carinhosa comigo desde que eu era pequena. A gente caminhou um pouco pela cidade e combinamos de nos encontrar mais tarde para ir ao evento do cemitério à noite.

    I also met a very dear friend, Alessandra. She has been a close friend of my father for many years and has always treated me with affection since I was very little. We walked around the city for a while and planned to meet later at night to go to the cemetery event.

    Depois do evento (que conto no próximo post), já era bem tarde. Ela voltou para o hotel dela para trabalhar, e eu me encontrei com outras duas amigas que também estavam em Assis. Fomos jantar em um restaurante no centro. Pedi um calzone - que parecia uma pizza fechada, com fiambre e queijo — estava muito gostoso.

    Depois do jantar, ficamos um pouco conversando e cada uma voltou para o seu hotel.

    Uma coisa curiosa sobre Assis é que, por ser uma cidade pequena e mais tradicional, com muitos moradores mais velhos, ainda existe um costume bem típico de interior: quando alguém falece, colocam um aviso público com o nome da pessoa e a data do falecimento em um painel na cidade. Achei interessante ver que esse hábito ainda existe nos dias de hoje.

    After the event (which I’ll talk about in the next post), it was already quite late. She went back to her hotel to work, and I met with two other friends who were also in Assis. We went to dinner at a restaurant in the city center. I ordered a calzone — which is like a closed pizza, with ham and cheese — it was very good.

    After dinner, we talked for a while and then each of us went back to our hotels.

    One interesting thing about Assis is that, because it is a small and more traditional city, with many elderly residents, there is still a very typical small-town custom: when someone passes away, a public notice is placed in the city with the person’s name and date of death on a panel. I found it interesting to see that this habit still exists nowadays.

 

    No geral, foi um dia simples, mas muito gostoso. Um daqueles dias mais calmos, só observando, caminhando e aproveitando o lugar.
