Recentemente comecei a assistir Fit Check: Confissões da Rainha do Brechó e sinceramente? Foi uma surpresa muito positiva para mim.
A série mistura moda, brechó, criatividade e superação de uma forma muito mais humana do que aquelas produções fashion cheias de luxo exagerado e tendências sem personalidade. E acho que foi exatamente isso que me fez gostar dela.

Recently, I started watching Fit Check: Confessions of a Ukay Queen and honestly? It was a very positive surprise for me.
The series mixes fashion, thrift shopping, creativity, and personal growth in a much more human way than those fashion productions filled with exaggerated luxury and trends with no personality. And I think that’s exactly what made me like it.
A história acompanha Melanie, uma garota apaixonada por moda “ukay” (brechó/thrift fashion muito popular nas Filipinas), que tenta crescer dentro da indústria da moda mesmo sendo constantemente julgada por sua origem simples e pelo estilo que acredita.
Uma das coisas que mais gostei é que a série mostra a moda como expressão pessoal e criatividade — não apenas como consumo ou status.
E isso conversa muito comigo.

The story follows Melanie, a girl passionate about “ukay” fashion (thrift fashion/popular second-hand shopping culture in the Philippines), who tries to grow within the fashion industry even while constantly being judged for her humble background and the style she believes in.
One of the things I liked the most is that the series portrays fashion as personal expression and creativity — not just consumption or status.
And that really resonates with me.
Hoje em dia parece que muita gente segue tendência sem identidade própria. Tudo fica igual, repetitivo, sem alma. Já em Fit Check, existe aquele olhar de reaproveitar peças, criar combinações únicas, enxergar beleza em coisas simples e transformar roupas em algo pessoal. Isso lembra muito a essência real da moda alternativa e do garimpo de brechó.
Também gostei bastante do visual da série.
Mesmo sendo uma produção mais leve e dramática (a parte dramática é a parte que eu não gosto muito, mas isso é em qualquer série ou filme), ela tem muitos looks interessantes sem parecer aquela estética extremamente carregada ou artificial que algumas séries de moda têm. Dá para perceber uma mistura de streetwear, peças vintage, customização e styling mais criativo.
Ao mesmo tempo, a série não é perfeita... como mencionei não sou fã de dramas e "intrigas/tramas".
Ela ainda tem alguns momentos bem dramáticos e exagerados típicos de novelas asiáticas, então quem gosta apenas de histórias totalmente calmas talvez estranhe um pouco algumas situações mais intensas. Mas no geral, achei divertida e fácil de assistir.

Nowadays, it feels like a lot of people follow trends without having their own identity. Everything starts looking the same, repetitive, and soulless. But in Fit Check, there’s this appreciation for reusing pieces, creating unique combinations, finding beauty in simple things, and turning clothes into something personal. It really reminds me of the true essence of alternative fashion and thrift culture.
I also really liked the visual style of the series.
Even though it’s a lighter and somewhat dramatic production (the dramatic part is the aspect I don’t enjoy that much, but that happens with almost every series or movie for me), it still has many interesting outfits without falling into that overly heavy or artificial aesthetic that some fashion series tend to have. You can notice a mix of streetwear, vintage pieces, customization, and more creative styling.
At the same time, the series isn’t perfect… as I mentioned, I’m not really a fan of dramas and “schemes/intrigues.”
It still has some very dramatic and exaggerated moments typical of Asian dramas, so people who only enjoy completely calm stories might find some scenes a bit too intense. But overall, I found it fun and easy to watch.
Outro ponto interessante é conhecer um pouco mais da cultura filipina através da moda ukay-ukay, que basicamente gira em torno do universo dos brechós e roupas reutilizadas. Achei muito legal ver uma série colocando esse universo como algo criativo e valioso, e não como algo “inferior”.
No fim, acho que Fit Check: Confissões da Rainha do Brechó acaba passando uma mensagem legal:
estilo não deveria ser sobre seguir o que todo mundo usa.
Estilo deveria ser sobre identidade, criatividade e conseguir transformar algo simples em algo único.
E sinceramente?
Acho isso muito mais interessante do que qualquer tendência passageira.
Another interesting aspect is getting to know a little more about Filipino culture through ukay-ukay fashion, which basically revolves around thrift stores and reused clothing. I really liked seeing a series portraying this world as something creative and valuable, instead of something “inferior.”
In the end, I think Fit Check: Confessions of a Ukay Queen delivers a really nice message: Style shouldn’t be about wearing what everyone else is wearing. Style should be about identity, creativity, and being able to transform something simple into something unique.
And honestly? I find that much more interesting than any temporary trend.
